A 19th-century residential structure located in Porto’s up-and-coming neighborhood of Lapa, the Paraiso project features seven family-oriented two-bedroom units and six studios, located in the middle of a large, tranquil botanical garden.

Rehabilitation of this structure involved a modern approach to design and materials, one by which we could not only preserve the traditional beauty of the structure’s pre-existing architectural elements but elevate them. The project is distinguished by its hempcrete volume extension, preservation of its original grand stairs and skylight, and a modern adaptation of the naturally ventilated wood and stone structure. The result is a luxurious sense of space and light, informed by the building’s traditional compositional elements.
